Pay-As-You Go Apps – Microsoft’s Way Sort of

without comments

Microsoft seems to be catching up on the apps market but with one very unexciting aftertaste, it still costs a lot of money. At $15 per month for business apps or enterprise apps, or a $3 for each app it still costs an arm and a leg to get. That may be something really business oriented people and organizations may be willing to pay for, the bad part is that after they announced the release of their apps store, they released a tech bulletin that for stuff to work out right, you need to get some compatibility issues that was more or less loosely tied to VISTA, their failure of an operating system that has been the scourge of many a desktops the world over. Meebo, the one stop-shop for IMs

with one comment

What’s good about Meebo is really the integration of all the popular chat and instant messaging platforms like Yahoo Messenger, Facebook and MySpace chat, AIM, MSN, GTalk, and the like. This is ideal for people who need to IM, whether for business or personal purposes, to have access to their preferred IM platform anywhere.

What’s even better is that users do not need to download any software or register (except for the IM they’re using) to be able to use Meebo. What’s more, it’s completely free of charge to use, so anyone is able to enjoy the benefits.

Meebo users also have their own online community where they communicate and keep in touch with each other. You will have to register for this though, although the feature itself is free.

SQL Accent

without comments

The Structured Query Language (SQL) contains one of the basic building blocks of contemporary database architecture. SQL defines the methods used to make and manipulate relational databases on all major platforms. At first glance, the language may seem threatening and complex but it’s really not all that bad. In a series of articles over the next few weeks we’ll explore the inner workings of SQL jointly. By the time we’re through, you’ll have the primary knowledge you need to go out there and begin working with databases!

By the way, the correct articulation of SQL is a controversial issue within the database community. In their SQL criterion, the American National Standards Institute declared that the official pronunciation is “es queue el.” However, many database professionals have taken to the slang pronunciation “sequel.” The option is yours.

Music Lives on Amie Street

without comments

amiestreetlogo.gif

Amie Street is a social network service and, at the same time, an indie online music store created by Elliott Breece, Elias Roman, and Joshua Boltuch in 2006. Artists can upload tracks on the site for other users to purchase (although many of the songs on the website are also for free). Popularity sets the price of the song. The price of a track starts at zero upon upload but then increases based on demand and popularity (the maximum price any song will rise to is 98¢ and artists get 70% of the revenue Amie Street makes). In terms of social networking, users can connect with fellow users through the “friend” feature wherein “friends” are categorized according to musical interests.
